What To Do With A Day Off?

Imagine the situation. You have been very busy the past few years, or longer, working and managing responsibilities etc. You spend many hours at work. Yes, not remotely or rarely remotely. You travel too and that takes up a lot of time. And then suddenly, without warning that life you knew disappears. That life that you thought about changing has now suddenly changed without your effort. You no longer need to put in all those hours on all those days with all that stress and worry. It’s all suddenly gone. Like a puff of smoke from a magic trick. You have now entered a different phase in your life. A phase you dreamed of for a long time but now that it’s suddenly here you are really not ready for it. How do you switch gears to adapt to this new life? Maybe starting slow until you have a better grasp of things is the smart thing to do. Maybe start by taking a look around and enjoying the nice weather would be a good start. What do you do with your first day?

An easy first would be to travel and visit the sites you have always wanted to go to. Like Seam Reap, Cambodia or Hong Kong, China or the continent of Africa or even soon to be the Moon. Yes visit the craters of our closest giant and take the most breath taking pictures of our Beloved Blue Marble. I saw an old sci-fi, comedy movie where they actually built a kind of Las Vegas type town on the Moon. The name of the film was “The Adventures of Pluto Nash”. Whether you like the movie or not, whether it’s too dated for your taste, it’s still a film with great ideas. So the Moon might be a good place to visit with some time off.

The next thing to do with some time off for the former busy Joe or Jane or the workaholic is to relax, slow things down and write a book. Sit in a good chair, stand at a table/ desk and write a book about anything your heart desires from start to finish, cover to cover. Whether it’s a cookbook, some kind of manual or even a story of fiction just write a good book. That means put time and effort into it. Learn the craft and discover and build up your own writing style into a book. Many sci-fi writers start a book by deciding to put their ideas on paper and share them with the world. You will discover so much about yourself and the way you think, the topics and ideas you gravitate toward, when you write a book. If you put some elbow grease into it, writing a book will be the fulfilling journey of self discovery you did not expect it to be. So, give it a try.

The list is truly endless.
