“Dr. Pimple Popper” is an American, medical, reality television program that can be found online and is also airing on the TLC channel. It stars the internet celebrity Dr. Sandra Lee and of course a team of producers, editors, her medical staff, who go by their first names like Kristi, Val and her husband Dr. Jeff Rebish.

“Dr. Pimple Popper” is basically about Dr. Sandra Lee, a dermatologist and now internet celebrity, at work doing what she does best in her medical practice. We watch her episode after episode diagnose and in most cases solves people´s dermatological problems. Yes, it´s that simple but dull it is not. So, a lot of her patients have conditions they consider embarrassing with strange growths they try to conceal or that impair their ability to do their jobs and live life. In most cases Dr. Lee is able to help these people and when she is not she refers them to a specialist. So, basically it´s a show with a happy ending nearly every time and we the viewers breathe a sigh of relief every time.

Now let´s start by admitting that this is a reality show, there is blood and gore, there is a kind of drama but it takes more the shape of the medical problems at hand and there are real people with clear problems(medical problems). Yes, all that is true but it seems so much less scripted and it avoids the negativity of nearly all reality shows. No choreographed chick fights, no wealthy people wasting money with a constant air of fatigue or petty problems nobody cares about. This show really is a breath of fresh air.

So, what sucked me into this show? Well for starters Dr. Lee´s bedside manners is so uplifting and a pleasure to watch. The importance of bedside manners in the medical profession cannot be understated but it´s sorely lacking. Watching her deal with people from all walks of life and from all over the country in such a positive way is a joy to watch.

Another thing that sucked me in were the medical issues of the patients. The patients have skin growths of all kinds from the benign to the more serious and watching her describe what they are and then of course bursting them is entertaining. Yes, watching her burst cysts and remove skin growths is mesmerising and disgusting at the same time. You really have to be thankful for modern medicine because had these people lived in the middle ages there would have been no surgical procedures or tissue cultures for them.

So, check out “Dr. Pimple Popper” , maybe not on a full stomach though. It´s a good watch and some even jokingly say it´s addictive.
