“This Island Earth” is the story of a talented scientist named Dr. Cal Meacham, played by Rex Reason, who is mysteriously saved from a plane crash only to discover that he will be asked to work on a fancy piece of cutting edge technology that turns out to be from another world. He eventually finds himself on another planet that is dangerous and strange.

“This Island Earth” is not a movie without flaws. For one thing, it has not aged very well as most of its gadgets look like junk to us in modern day. There´s also the annoying sexism and racism in the film which makes it even less credible for the modern audience but it´s still good sci-fi for the ideas in the story. The story, at its core, is a good one and it´s interesting. Imagine being recruited for a job that looks on the surface to be a dream come true. Imagine being asked out of the blue to work your dream job. Unfortunately, the job does not turn out to be that but that´s how the story starts and I feel it´s a good hook.

“This Island Earth” harkens back to the early days of Hollywood sci-fi films when the stories were original and thought provoking to an audience who had not seen such entertainment before. It´s a good rainy day film if your internet is down or you want to watch a fairly good but dated film.

I liked This Island Earth for its ideas and I don´t mind suspending my disbelief a little more than usual either. Ultimately, it´s a fun watch worth seeing.
