Thinking Outside The Box

We always hear the expression to think outside the box. So many puzzles and riddles require we look at a situation or problem from a different perspective. People who do this are called brilliant and advance fields of study forward and make new discoveries that dazzle.

I have to say that to be stumped on a problem and then have someone show you an unconventional solution is like watching a good magic trick. That is why I understand the appeal of puzzles of all kinds even though I am not obsessed with them. I do not spend every waking hour, all my free time looking for solutions but some people do. And many of those people are good at it. There is a Youtuber who has a channel where all she does is solve puzzles and she’s very good at it. She goes to puzzle conventions and completes 500, 1000 piece puzzles very quickly. Her videos are fun to watch.

But our societies are changing. With the emergence of AI intelligence is no longer as prized as it once was. The people who problem solve, do puzzles and riddles. etc. will easily outperformed by AI. What kind of a society will we have when the value of intelligence trends to zero? Will everybody stop using their intellects and as a result we all become stupider? We could always turn our creativity up a notch and build better machine, explore our universe further and faster. We could become more ambitious with our explorations, whether it’s exploring our oceans, life or the furthest regions of the ether. That would be a good use of our new tools. Sliding into non-productivity and creating a world devoid of imagination and creativity is a big mistake.

So, this may be the ultimate puzzle for our species to solve. What projects and aspirations will we have once we are flush with an over abundance intelligence?

I’m just saying.
