How many times have you been on a job interview where you felt that you did not connect with the person asking the questions? The key word here is “person”. An interview is about telling the story of your life, your career life. It’s really about connection and your skillsets for a role. I had my first interview with an AI not too long ago and it was strange. Strange because I knew it was an AI and strange because the interview itself was in many way standard, like many others. Now I suspect that the AI had filters for certain words and that ultimately the group of candidates that reached the later stages of the hiring process were seen by a person. But that is still a strange scenario for me. Most likely it’s the way of the future.

So, why would companies go through the process of an interview with AIs? I’m not sure but maybe they are working toward a work environment where the entire hiring process is done by AI. This would absolve companies from any discrimination liabilities at the least. There is however another pernicious possibility for the use of AIs in the hiring process. And that would be the accumulation of information on people because we do live in a world where information is a sellable and valuable thing to sell.

What about laws to give people ownership of their information? Well, those haven’t come yet. Today, in this day and age a person can and does have information about themselves, their families etc. online and bought and sold without their knowledge or approval. Even information that is false and may cause harm is out in the ether, bouncing around.

How does this affect Entertainment and the Arts? What will happen to the beloved art of story telling? I heard that some film studios are hiring actors for a film project based on the number of views and subscriptions they have on social media. Where does this leave the people with talent? Where does this leave the people who study their craft at story telling and hone their acting or writing abilities? I’m worried for an entire industry now. We have to give these questions some serious thought.

What will be the criteria for the casting agents of tomorrow? Will it be likes, talent or even human. Am I missing anything?

What are your opinions on this?
