“Superman” is an American, action, superhero film from the DC comics superhero of the same name. It was produced by Pete Chiapetta, James Gunn, Nikolas Korda, Andrew Lary, Peter Saffran, Anthony Tittanegro, Chantal Nong Vo, Lars P. Winther and Galen Vaisman. The writers are James Gunn and the two people who created superman Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It stars David Corenswet, Alan Tudyk, Grace Chan, Bradley Cooper, Angela Sarafyan, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Sara Sampaio, Tatiana Piper, Stephen Blackehart, Giovannie Cruz, Bonnie Discepolo and so many more talented people.
“Superman” is the story of Clark Kent/ Kal-El, played by David Corenswet, an alien who fell to Earth as a child and is adopted by the loving Family of the Kents is one of the most well known and loved story to come from American culture. As is the case of most superhero stories, Clark Kent fights crime under the alias of Superman, the Man of Steel. He saves people from earthquakes, fires and all kinds of dangers.
Superman is the quintessential hero. He is the answer to the question: What would you do if you had super powers? If your answer is, ‘I want to do good.’ or ‘I want to make the World a better place’, then you would have Superman. He is a man who is as good as he is strong, the same way Lex Luthor is as bad as he is smart. Believe it or not, only Superman seems capable of keeping Lex Luthor at bay.
The villain in this film is Lex Luthor, played by Nicolas Hoult. For a little background for the people who don’t know Lex is as smart as Superman is strong. He is as twisted and evil as Superman is good and well intentioned. Although it might not seem it at first but this is a very close duel. Lex Luthor is a supra genius who devoted his skills to the destruction of Superman and world domination. You have to think that without Superman to give him pause he could actually succeed. That is how capable a villain he is.
I also liked the other characters like Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, and the dynamics between Clark Kent and Lois Lane. She is not sexist, ready to beat up the men in her life. There isn’t that sexism targeting men in the film either. Both characters are respectful of each other. I hope that this is a growing trend in more movies, that is, getting rid of the sexism against men in films nowadays. Lois is a great journalist, good friend and just a stand up gal all around. She’s a well written character who needs more screen time. I wouldn’t mind seeing her in, maybe, a miniseries where she exposes problems in the city and occasionally asks Superman for a hand. I’m thinking of a modern day Sherlock Holmes who’s always one step ahead of her peers and police. The possibilities for this character of Lois are really endless. If Superman has his strength and Lex has his intelligence I want to say that Lois has determination to reveal the truth. Yes, that quality that moves mountains and peals back the veil to secrets of the World around us.
One of the great story elements is its simplicity. It is a simple story of good vs. evil and it works. There is a good reason why “Superman” did well at the box office as it often does. It’s a fun film with a classical hero with good values, dazzling us with with his superpowers and the way he handles his personal life and treats others.
