Last week I asked AI, ChatGPT, to write 3 articles on a subject with 3 different themes. The first theme was from the point of view of an explorer. The second theme was from the point of view of a job seeker getting employment in the space mining industry off Earth. And the 3rd was from the point of view of a prisoner sent to the stars to do slave labor. So, basically we have an explorer, a job seeker and a prisoner sent to do slave labor. These three scenarios are the three most likely situations the average person would get the chance or misfortune to head to the stars. And also those three themes make for great story fodder too.

The first story seemed more like a data dump. There wasn’t much storytelling with heart and depth. It wasn’t so interesting. Some might say it came across as a diary entry. And that ,makes it more acceptable. The second story of the explorer was better but I found lacking. It seemed more like a job ad to me. For an explorer, there was little to no action. No discovery of the unknown. No razzle dazzle. A story of exploration should have more imagination in it. The third was the best. The third story was the most human which I could relate to. I really got the impression that this was a person caught in the criminal justice system, but likable, and looking for their best chances of survival. It was the closest story where the narrator seemed human. In short, it was pretty good.

In short, AI the storyteller is making leaps and bounds in progress. It still isn’t quite there yet but it is definitely improving. I actually liked the third story of the prisoner. Whether it was because of the theme or the writing I cannot say, but it was no bad at all.

So, where does AI progress go? Well that is up to us. Either or, there is a place for this new technology in our lives. How will we handle the first or next classic novel written by AI?
