”Wayward Pines” is an American mystery, sci-fi television series shot in British Columbia, Canada and based on novels of the same name written by Blake Crouch. It is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Chad Hodge, Ashwin Rajan, Donald De Line and Ron French. It stars Matt Dillon, Carla Gugino, Terence Howard, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Reed Diamond, Tim Griffin, Charlie Tahan, Juliette Lewis, Melissa Leo, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Justin Kirk, Sarah Jeffrey, Hope Davis and Barclay Hope. Charlie Clouser is the composer. This is a television series that has just begun and shows alot of promise.

Ethan Burke, played by Matt Dillon, is a secret service agent investigating the disappearance of two agents in Wayward Pines, Idaho. The story begins when he awakens in a hospital without patients and escapes to find himself in the small town of Wayward Pines. This town is however not your ordinary American town. There are small speaker boxes in the bushes that play cricket chirps at night. The hospital is fully staffed but has no patients and his cell phone does not work. The people are friendly but suspiciously unhelpful when it comes to answering questions about the missing agents.

The story turns into a nightmare as Ethan realizes that he cannot leave Wayward Pines. There is a large fence and mountains around the entire town and the townspeople are forced to follow a set of rules and pretend they live in a normal town under fear of death. The town seems to be a prison.

Each episode ends with more questions than it answers and the story so far is unpredictable and strange. With each episode I have to wonder what Wayward Pines really is? What is its purpose? What are the creatures we got a glimpse of?

Those are just some of the questions that will keep me glued to the couch for each episode. This television series is off to a good start and I highly recommend it.
