It goes without saying that the book  “The Hobbit´´  is a fantasy/ sci-fi classic. Hobbits are very likeable creatures even though they are not strong, big or brave. They would prefer breakfast over an adventure or a meal to a distant travel. The movie captures the likeable qualities of the hobbits and dwarves.

Dwarves have an extreme love for precious metals and minerals. They are however brave and motivated creatures who try to reclaim what was taken from them, and the film portrays this very well.

So the question remains, as in the case of most good books turned to movies, Does the movie measure up to the book in the slightest? The answer to this question is an unequivocal yes.

The film is beautiful to watch and the characters are all charismatic in their own way. It´s a fun movie. Bilbo Baggins is more a book worm and reluctant hero at first but changes his mind and decides to join the adventure. Hobbits are unlikely heroes because of their physique and unwillingness to leave the shire. We soon learn to look past physical attributes when Bilbo turns out to be a big help to the party. The first movie ends after they are saved from a certain death. The famous meeting between Bilbo and Smaug has yet to happen.
