”The Broken” is a French / British horror, mystery film produced by Lene Bausager with associate producers Yves Chevalier and Winnie Li and is written and directed by Sean Ellis and stars Lena Heady, Asier Newman, Michelle Duncan, Melvil Poupaud, Richard Jenkins, Howard Ward, Lobo Chan and Damian O´Hare. The music was composed by Guy Farley.

The story starts when the main character, a radiologist named Gina McVey, looks at the xray of a patient with dextrocardia with situs inversus. This patients organs are reversed or mirrored from their normal position. This is symbolic of things to come as doppelgangers come through mirrors to kill and replace people.

The mystery begins when Gina McVey sees someone who looks exactly like her drive by. She sets out to discover who this person is and the story takes several unpredictable turns from there. She is in a car accident then discovers that her boyfriend Stephan Moreau (played by Melvil Poupaud) is a doppelganger and she must save her family from a doppelganger invasion.

This film is at times a little confusing but also brilliant and subtle. It takes the story elements of a doppelganger invasion and combines it with a mystery the main character must solve. This film avoids the excessive violence, extreme dialogue or large explosions that films of this nature tend to degernerate into as their scripts fall apart. I recommend ”The Broken” as a must see and own.
