”Snowpiercer” is a South Korean sci-fi movie based on the French graphic novel ”Le Transperceneige” by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette. ”Snowpiercer” was directed by Boong Joon-ho and written by Boong Joong-ho and Kelly Masterson. Most of the film dialogue is in English with small parts in Korean. It boasts a very talented cast of actors such as John Hurt, Ed Harris, Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Go Ah-sung, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Ewen Bremmer, Octavia Spencer, Luke Pasqualino, Vlad Ivanov, Tomas Lemarquis, Steve Park, Adnan Haskovic and Clark Middleton.

The story takes place in the not too distant future where humanity has finally managed to ruin the environment beyond repair and put our planet in a deep freeze. The only known survivors are the people on a train powered by a perpetual motion engine. This train never stops and goes around the world on a circuituitous route.

Life on the train obeys a strict hierarchy with the people at the bottom of the hierarchy at the back of the train and the priviledged class toward the front. The people in the back of the train are fed gelatinous protein cubes made from crickets and live in squalor while the priviledged class live well and enjoy fine dining such as sushi and steak. The priviledged class has night clubs, restaurants and saunas too.

A mass revolt led by the character of Curtis Everett played by Chriss Evans breaks out where the people from the back of the train head toward the front. The train symbolizes the community´s social hierarchy and what it considers most important. This hierarchy of importance being the people at the end as having the least importance followed by their food supply, water, children, the food supply of the priviledged, the pleasure of the priviledged and finally the head of the community called Wilford, played by Ed Harris.

This is another good action packed film that deals with a society in collapse. The fate of the characters at the ending was uncertain but hopeful. I highly recommend this movie as a must see and own.
