Parallels
released 2015

”Parallels” is an American, scifi, mystery, adventure film which could become a TV series whose story takes place over several parallel Earths. It was directed by Christopher Leone who also wrote it with Laura Harkcom. It stars Mark Hapka, Jessica Rothe, Eric Jungmann, Constance Wu, Yorgo Constantine, Davi Jay, Michael Monks, Ian Casselberry, B.J. Grogan and Lorraine LeBlanc. This is a well done low budget film that has the feel of a pilot for a new TV series.

“Parallels” is the story of, what begins as a trio, of friends who inadvertently travel to alternate Earths when they go to meet their father in an abandoned building. Ronan Carver, played by Mark Hapka and Beatrix Carver, played by Jessica Rothe are brother and sister who get a message to meet their father at a certain address in the middle of downtown. They go with their friend Harry, played by Eric Jungmann and find the address is a neglected, abandoned skyscraper.

From there the journey begins as the trio expands into many. The idea is that they travel to alternate Earths in the same location at the same time. The building is in fact a portal to other dimensions and not a time machine or space craft. I´m curious to see what other mysteries the building holds.

I liked the world building, story and character developments. The characters get a chance to see different versions of themselves on different Earths and these different Earths present huge challenges for them. For example, on one version Earth was devastated while on another Harry is a corrupt and successful corporate lawyer.

This is a very well done sci-fi, action film that was shot on a low budget and deserves to be seen. I was reluctant to see it at first but now I agree with everybody that suggested it that it is a good film. This is a good film that will probably lead into a good series. Don´t let the fact that it´s a low budget film keep you from seeing it.

I highly recommend “Parallels” as a must see and own.
