Released 2014

The movie ”Noah” is an American film resleased in 2014 and directed by Darren Aronofsky. It was written by Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel and based on the biblical story of Noah´s Ark. It stars Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Conelly, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Logan Lerman, Nick Nolte (who is the voice of a watcher) and Douglas Booth. Critics have called this movie a subjective version of the biblical story. It is a beautiful film with a wonderful use of CGI.

The story begins with a young Noah witnessesing the murder of his father Lamech by Tubal-Cain. He grows up and lives with his wife Naameh and children Shem, Ham and Japheth. It´s interesting to see that Noah and his family live off the land and do not kill or eat meat. They respect life. Noah recieves a message to build an ark to save his family and the animals from a big flood. An interesting aspect of Noah´s character is the fact that he does not like people. He lives outside society for some very good reasons. The descendants of Cain have turned turned humanity into warlike, even cannibalistic society. The picture of humanity is not at all flattering and makes you anticipate the flood even more.

Noah is a beautiful film and an interesting version to the biblical story. Unlike the previous movies about Noah and his Ark the best parts aren´t necesarily at the end.The film directors were smart enough to give a more complete history and not repeat the storylines from the past were Noah built an ark under the taunts and ridicule of the nearby people who were washed away at the end. The story is more complete and also more serious sheding light on the character of Noah.

I found this movie to be interesting and beautiful with a good story progression. That is why it is a must watch and belongs in your library of good movies.
