Horns
Released 2014

”Horns” is an American, Canadian fantasy, sci-fi, thriller film released in October 2014. It was produced by Alexandre Aja, Rizza Aziz, Joey McFarland and Cathy Shulman and directed by Alexandre Aja. The film is based on the novel of the same name by author Joe Hill. It stars a talented cast of Daniel Radcliffe, Max Minghella, Joe Anderson, Juno Temple, Kelli Garner, James Remar, Kathleen Quinlan, Heather Graham and David Morse. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and was released in October 2014.

Daniel Radcliffe plays the main character of Ignatius “Ig” Perrish who is accused of the grizzly rape and murder of his girlfriend. The people in his small town treat him like he is guilty. His family treats him like a leper too.

He begins to grow horns and with his horns come the ability to see the bad in people. We see that the reason people treat him as guilty has more to do with the demons inside them then an honest character judgment.

For example, his brother was the last person to be with Ig´s murdered girlfriend before the killer but refused to come forward for fear of being accused himself. He also tried to seduce Ig´s girlfriend.

Another example is the waitress at the diner, played by Heather Graham, who lies to the police and investigators to gain fame. If you call her crazy then what can you say about the rest of the town?

Without his new found powers Ig would not have stood a chance to find the truth and save himself. This is a disturbing story about people´s motivations for lying about serious issues and destroying an innocent person in the process. It´s also interesting to see the veneer of kindness of a quaint town pulled away to reveal some very ugly truths about each and every person. Ig may have the horns but he is not the demon.

I really enjoyed this film because it is an original take on the idea of demons. In this film the demons are inside almost everyone. This film is worth watching and will make you think. That´s why I think it´s a must see and own.
