“Forks Over Knives” is an American dietary, documentary film directed by the independent filmmaker Lee Fulkerson. It was produced by John Corry and Brian Wendel and written by Lee Fulkerson. The film discusses the experiences and academic theses of T. Colin Campbell Ph.D., Caldwell Esselstyn Ph.D., John A. McDougall Ph.D., Neal D. Barnard M.D. and Rip Esseltstyn. It won the Documentary / Special Interest title of the year at the 2012 Entertainment Merchants Association´s Independent Home Entertainment Awards.

This documentary is a recounting of the careers of a group of academics who found a link between cancer, diabetes and heart disease rates and the individual´s diet. They found that for diets high in animal fats and diary the rates of disease increased. More specifically, a 5% animal fat intake in a diet had no adverse effects on an individual´s health while a 20% intake of animal fats spiked cancer, obesity, diabetes and heart disease rates. They also found that diets high in vegetables helped to lower disease rates in many cases.

This is a startling find because it goes against what the media and most advertisements claim. Most people associate high animal fat diets with protein intake and high diary diets with calcium intake which are both an important part of a healthy diet. We are never told to eat these foods sparingly, and because of this our collective health suffers.

This is an important documentary for all because it clarifies the dietary component linked to many of our most prevalent diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer. This is a very informative documentary and should be seen by all. That is why I highly recommend it as a must see and own.
