Fatal Attraction” is an American drama, psychological thriller produced by Stanley R. Jaffe and Sherry Lansing. It was directed by Adrian Lyne and written by James Dearden and Nicholas Meyer and stars a very talented cast of actors which include Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, Anne Archer, Ellen Hamilton Latzen, Stuart Penkin, Ellen Foley, Fred Gwynne, Meg Mundy, Tom Brennan, Lois Smith, Mike Nussbaum, J.J. Johnston, Michael Arkin and Jane Krakowski. It received 6 academy award nominations and 5 nominations from the American Film Institute.

The story follows a married Manhattan attorney named Dan Gallagher, played by Michael Douglas, who meets an editor from a publishing company named Alexandra ”Alex” Forrest, played by Glenn Close. They have a one night stand and Dan ends up getting stalked by Alexandra. She does not want to let him go and becomes more and more unstable and psychotic. What Dan sees as a simple transgression puts his whole world at risk. This really is the case of someone having to sleep in the bed they made and then some, as the danger Alex poses become more extreme.

There is a famous scene where Alexandra kills Dan´s daughters pet rabbit and boils it in a pot. This film really does go into the realm of the horror genre as we see that Dan has to look over his shoulder constantly.

It´s frightening to see Dan´s life go out of control so quickly. I loved the fore-shadowing in this film. Alexandra has a mysterious, determined and over-fixated air to her from her very first encounter with Dan. She seemed to notice him at the party long before they spoke at the bar. This movie turned gender stereotypes upside down at the time because the psychotic and dangerous stalker was a Alexandra and not Dan or a complete male stranger.

This was a hugely successful film when it was released because it has a good story with great actors. That is why I highly recommend ”Fatal Attraction”.
