“Enemy” is the story of Adam Bell, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who seems like an ordinary guy. He´s a Toronto native and college professor leading an uneventful life and stuck in his daily routines. Everything changes however when he spots somebody that looks exactly like him. This doppleganger is an actor living a much more exciting life than his. So he sets out to find this double who´se name is Anthony Claire and is married to a woman named Helen, played by Sara Gadon. This leads him down an interesting path where we the viewer question the reasons for his actions and his very sanity.

A movie like “Enemy” will have you ask yourself so many questions when it is over. What would you do if you found that you had a double? Not a twin but a real double who could replace you in your life and nobody would know? There is also the question of the giant spiders that seem more like a hallucination than supernatural manifestation. I suspect that the spiders are more a symbol of things repressed for Adam Bell. He is clearly a very repressed person who may be suffocating under the weight of things he dare not say or do. The doppleganger could be a figment of his imagination or a slip into psychosis.

In any case this is a movie worth watching more than once to pick up on clues missed the first time around. This is a movie well worth watching with friends or alone as it will spark some very interesting theories about the story. I highly recommend “Enemy” as a film to watch and own.
